Imogen Marsteller's paintings function as confessionals of her deepest emotions, mainly through self-portraits, hoping to be vulnerable, depicting the social and secret, the intimate and the tragic of her own life, yet hiding behind use of bright colours, bold lines, glamour and stoicness within the poses, continually searching for an emotional connection from their viewers. She is creating works that blur the lines between the humorous and the serious, the commercial and the artistic. Telling her own stories as a young woman trying to navigate a complex patriarchal world through painting. The central question of her work is how, through painting and her words, can she connect to a broader audience? Imogen's work remains an ever-evolving journey towards emotional connection and artistic expression. She has a keen interest in both the monumental and the abstraction of the everyday and the mundane. Imogen’s work borders on the surreal, establishing a unique magical realist world.
